Arteca is a portal that supports the creation and dissemination of digital scholarly materials that explore the intersection of arts, humanities, science and technology. In collaboration, MIT Press, Leonardo/ISAST and The University of Texas at Dallas, will provide tools for the creation of art and scholarship that cuts across several disciplines of professional practice and offer opportunities to develop works from article to monograph length that take full advantage of online strategies.
The project is modeled after CogNet, an online community for cognitive sciences, pioneered by MIT Press in the late 1990’s. CogNet has been a subscription-based content portal and platform since 2000, containing the full text of over 550 books and 6 journals.
The aggregator, when launched, will support Leonardo/ISAST in serving as the virtual art-science community resource and critical content provider (through MIT Press) for scholarly and experimental publications, including gray literature. It will act as a valuable hub for academic librarians and researchers, and will aid in raising the art, humanities, science, and technology community’s visibility when other monodisciplines have already established such services.
