The ArtSciLab was created in with the opening of the Edith O’Donnell Arts and Technology building. Dr. Roger Malina is the founding director and Principal Investigator of the lab.
From its founding, the ArtSciLab initiated various projects that focused on data visualization and sonification of data, as well as experimental academic publishing projects with partners Leonardo and MIT Press.
In early 2014, the lab commenced work on Creative Disturbance, an international platform for members of the art, science and technology communities to connect through a podcast channel system. The project was successfully funded through Kickstarter in fall of 2014, and launched publicly in early 2015. Creative Disturbance serves as the current flagship project of the lab, and is continually pulling in new conversations that help illuminate and inform the intellectually curious across the globe on projects of creative expression.
In addition, the lab hosts various projects that involve the integration of the arts, design and humanities in science, technology, education and mathematics (STEAM).
